Riyadh, Saudi Arabia October 22nd, 2023: Day three of the Riyadh 2023 World Combat Games witnessed the concluding events of both Sumo and Wushu. After yesterday’s riveting display of 40 men and 40 women sumotori competing in their respective light, middle and heavyweight categories, today’s arrangement witnessed a slightly different approach, with men and women competing for gold in the open weight categories. Within the Wushu events, fans were captivated by the final men’s and women’s Taolu performances, while the final men’s and women’s Sanda weight divisions engaged in fierce combat to determine the final victors.
Wushu
Renowned for its athlete’s meticulously choreographed performances, the agile and skilled athletes of Wushu captivated spectators today with their masterfully blended mix of traditional martial arts with fluid artistic expression.
Women’s Taolu:
Gold in the Jianshu and Qiangshu category was secured by Yi Li of Macao, finishing with a score of 9.753. In Taolu’s discipline of Nanquan and Nandao, Cheon Min Tan of Malaysia came first with a score of 9.740. Finally in the Taolu Taijiquan and Taijijian category, Shuting Hu of China placed first with a score of 9.770.
Men’s Taolu:
In the men’s Daoshu and Gunshu, Zhaohua Wu of China finished first with a final score of 9.803. In Taolu Nanquan and Nangun, Liu Chang Min of Taiwan took first with a score of 9.756. In Taolu Taijiquan and Taijijian, Hyeongu An of Korea secured the championship with a score of 9.730.
Sanda
In today’s Wushu finals, eight athletes went head-to-head in the dynamic, full-contact discipline of Sanda, captivating audiences with their unique blend of technique, speed, and sheer force.
Women’s Sanda Winners
Gold in the 52 kg category was Yueyao Li of China. The 60 kg division was secured by Xiaowei Wu of China, while Shahrbano Semiromi of Iran placed first within the 70 kg division.
Men’s Sanda Winners
In the men’s 56 kg category, Haidong Jiang of China took the gold. The 65 kg division was won by Siefeldin El Mohamed Elsayed Mohsen of Egypt while the 70 kg division saw Zhaoyang Li of China take first. Winner of the 75kg category was accomplished by Saad Boujekka of Morocco. The champion of the final weight category of 85 kg was won by Mohammadreza Rigi of Iran.
Sumo
Sumo saw its final events of the WCG take place with its rikishi bravely entering the dohyō in the open weight categories. Ukraine and Japan swept the podium within both the male and female categories.
In the female’s open weight division, first was secured by Svitlana Yaromka of Ukraine, while
second went to Yelyzaveta Morenko of Ukraine and third was accepted by Ivanna Berezovska.
In the men’s open weight division, Hayato Miwa of Japan took gold, while Ukraine’s Olkesandr Veresiuk of Ukraine took silver. Bronze was received by Japan’s Taisei Matsuzono.
Tomorrow’s events will see the commencement of Judo and Wrestling. Judo will begin at 12 pm in KSU 2 while Wrestling will feature at 11 am and 4 pm in KSU 5.
